2002년경 DSLR의 매력에 빠져들기 시작하면서 4~5MB상당의 사진파일들이 PC에 급격하게 쌓여가기 시작하였다.

10년이 넘도록 쌓인 사진자료들. 지울수도 없고 CD에 백업하기도 힘들고 그렇다고 심심할때 찾아보기는 더더욱 어려운 현실.

2009년 이후, 때는 바야흐로 모바일 전성시대. 모바일을 통해 영화감상하는 일이 일상이 되다시피 하였다.

 

동영상을 모두 모바일 기기에 넣고 다닐수도 없고 새로운 동영상을 얻기위해 u-torrent같은 P2P프로그램이 PC에 24시간 켜져있어야 했으며, 특히 동영상 스트리밍을 위해서라도 PC가 24시간 켜져 있어야 하는 상황.

오래전부터 모아왔던 mp3파일들. 필요에 따라 모바일기기에 업로드하여 음악감상. 이것도 한번하면 끝이 아니었다. 모바일기기가 바뀌면 다시 다 업로드해야하고, 방대한 mp3파일을 모두 모바일기기에 넣고 다닐 수도 없는 상황.

 

 

 

문제의 핵심은 보유하고 있는 콘텐츠를 어떻게 하면 나이스하게 활용할 수 있을까?, 어떻게 관리할 수 있을까? 였다.

 

수차례에 걸친 구글링, 블로그 탐방, 카페등을 들락거리면서 얻은 결론은 바로 NAS 시스템 구축.

 

개인용도의 NAS시스템 활용에 대한 니즈가 커지고 있음을 잘 알고 있는 국내 몇몇 업체에서도

관련 제품들을 쏟아내기 시작하였고 그 이전에 이미 대만의 synology라는 업체는 잘 관리된

S/W를 무기로 NAS시장을 점령하고 있었다.

 

 

IPTIME, Synology등 몇개 업체 제품의 비교검토 끝에 제대로된 NAS시스템을 구축하고 활용하기 위해서는 S/W인프라가 독보적인 Synology제품을 선택하는게 가성비 최고의 선택.

 

 

여기 또하나의 문제가 있었는데 그건 바로 가격. 타 제품과 비교하여 월등한 가격압박을 가까스로 이겨내고 가장 보급기종이라 할 수 있는 DS-212j를 선택. 다음 문제는 HDD를 어떤걸로 구매하느냐. 시스템 특성상 24간(이 아닐수도 있다) 365일 Ready되어 있어야 하는 바 저전력 및 안정성등이 보장되어야한다.

 

4TB를 생각하고 있는데 WD RED 2T가 대략 15만원선. 4T면 30만원. ㄷㄷㄷ

일단 포기하고 2T기준 10만원선의 HDD로 결정.

  IPTIME N8004R : 유선망 1G를 지원하기 위해 별도로 구매, PC와 NAS간 파일전송의 답답함은 겪어보지 않은사람은 모른다.      필수적으로 1Gbps이상을 지원하는 공유기 또는 HUB가 필요하다.

NAS구축 후 3-4개월이 지난 현재 콘텐츠 메니지먼트에 있어서는 매우 만족하고 있다.

각각의 S/W사용법은 시스템을 구축하면서 차근차근 공부하면 될 것이고 나의 경험상 집에 있는 다양한 정보들을 어떻게 관리하고 소비할 것인가를 고민하는 사람이라면 투자대비 확실한 만족감을 얻을 것임은 확실하다고 생각된다.

 

  

사실 NAS를 구축하여 잘~ 사용하기 위해서는 공유기 설정에서 부터 WebDAV 설정, 동영상 스트리밍을 위한 방법, DLNA 설정
등 알아야할 사전지식이 꽤 많이 필요하다. 공부하는 자세로 임하지 않으면 필시 후회할 것이다.
